Bowers & Wilkins 683 S2 DS 5.1 Home Theatre Speaker System; If you're watching movies and listening to music in a large, open space, you need a system with authority as well as attention to detail. The 683 DS Theater will command the largest domestic spaces with ease. The 683 Theatre is the reference 600 Series home theatre system, put together to fill large, open spaces effortlessly with the richest, most realistic sound.Prepare yourself for the big sound experience, fronted by a pair of uncompromising 683 S2 floorstanders and the HTM61 S2 centre speaker. A pair of wall-mounted DS3 surround speakers provide the all-enveloping effect of sound from the rear positions, and, if there’s a scene with a helicopter landing or a bomb going off, an ASW610XP subwoofer will let you know about it.

683 S2 Floorstanding Loudspeaker

The 683 S2 features a Decoupled Double Dome tweeter - technology evolved from Bowers & Wilkins CM10 speaker. The double dome design uses an extremely thin aluminium dome for lightness, surrounded by a thicker aluminium ring for rigidity. The result is a far more precise treble performance. And while the tweeter looks like it’s part of the main speaker, it’s physically separated in its own gel-filled cavity, so performance isn’t hit by unwanted resonances or vibrations, for a more natural, spacious sound.

Serious and accurate bass performance is equally vital to such a room-filling speaker. That’s why the 683 S2 features a new bass driver construction method, using a similar method of bracing to the tweeter with twin layers of aluminium. The richer, distortion-free bass response is sumptuous.

As well as new bass driver construction techniques and a new tweeter, brought in from Bower & Wilkins high-end series, the 683 S2 also boasts an FST Kevlar midrange driver. Serious technology, serious performance, but seriously affordable for a speaker of this calibre.

DS3 Surround Speaker

For large home theatre installations, choose a pair of rear speakers that can get you closer to the true surround sound of the cinema.

The DS3 is a wall-mounted surround speaker that can operate in what’s called ‘dipole’ mode, to create an authentic all-enveloping effect of the auditorium in a large space. Or, you may prefer to switch to conventional ‘monopole’ operation, in which the sound from side or rear is more precisely located and less diffuse. The choice depends on the room conditions, the size of the audience and the kind of material on view.

Whichever mode you select, the sound quality is superlative, supplied by a 130mm Kevlar® cone bass/midrange, twin midrange/high frequency units and a Nautilus™ tube-loaded tweeter.

HTM61 S2 Center Channel Speaker

The HTM61 S2 now features a Decoupled Double Dome tweeter, ideal for delivering the clarity needed for dialogue. The double dome enhances rigidity without adding weight, for a more precise response, while decoupling the tweeter from the main enclosure removes unwanted resonances and vibration. The result is absolutely clear.

Using construction techniques found in the 600 Series floorstanders, the HTM61 S2 also features two 6.5-inch bass drivers that use new aluminium cones, for an ideal mix of punch and precision.

Below the Decoupled Double Dome tweeter and between the two 6.5-inch bass drivers lies an FST midrange driver. And to the rear of the speaker are two Flowports. Together these ensure stunning audio clarity is carried across the entire frequency range, and a new symmetrical design improves integration and sound dispersion. The result is a serious centre speaker - stunning for big-screen action.

ASW 610XP Subwoofer

The ASW610XP, the most powerful of the 600 Series subwoofers, delivers the finishing touch – or finishing thump – to a hi-fi or home theatre system for larger rooms. Serious bass power is developed in a compact cabinet thanks to the unit’s 500W amplifier, long-throw 250mm driver. Equipped with audiophile-standard Class D circuitry, the unit remains cool and efficient under pressure.

In all of the 600 Series subwoofers, the bass driver diaphragms are constructed from a rugged, finely-tuned mix of paper pulp, Kevlar® fibres and resin, which provides the stiffness needed to withstand the tremendous physical forces exerted by the voice coil and pressures inside the cabinet.

Ultra-solid construction delivers slamming bass, drum kicks, and special movie effects. Deformation is minimised; bass precision, power and enjoyment are maximised.
