The conductor material is Linear Structured Carbon (LSC).

This coaxial cable has a center made of LSC, consisting of 12,000 individually insulated 7-micron strands, forming a total diameter of 1 mm. Strand insulation prevents electrons from jumping between fibers, forcing movement along a single path. This reduces audio distortion, yielding much cleaner sound.

The center insulation

The center insulation uses polyethylene foam to minimize capacitance and dielectric absorption. The outer shielding braid functions as both screen and return signal and consists of 6 layers of braided LSC fibers, totaling 114,000 individually insulated strands.

The jacket

The jacket is made of light yellow Hulliflex with black printing. Hulliflex offers excellent mechanical protection and high chemical resistance.

The end result is a defect-free cable. In all tested setups, even for non-critical listeners, the improvement is obvious. As a digital interconnect, The First Ultimate delivers unmatched performance, eliminating jitter distortion.

Why a heavier shield?

In rare cases with some tube amps, our original The First cable produced a slight hum due to high ground currents flowing through the shield. The First Ultimate’s heavier shield has much lower resistance, greatly reducing the chance of hum.

What are ground currents?

Since all audio gear is powered by the same mains supply, small hum voltages appear on equipment chassis and grounds. These vary in magnitude or phase and equalize through cable shields as ground currents. These are often similar in size to actual audio signal currents (in microamperes). In unbalanced cables, this interference can harm sound transparency and imaging.

What helps?

Use the Van Den Hul Polarity Checker to minimize or eliminate these ground currents and enhance system performance.

In stubborn hum cases, bypass The First Ultimate's shield with a metal wire or switch to LSC cables with metal shields like The First Metal Screen or The Second.

The outer diameter of The First Ultimate is 7.8 mm and pairs perfectly with our C-8.0 RCA connectors.

Available in 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 m lengths, either as singles (for SPDIF use) or stereo pairs with our RCA connectors.

The First Ultimate is not sold by the reel for DIY use. It requires skilled customization.
