Wharfedale Jade 7 Floorstanding Loudspeaker reaches way, way down into frequencies most speakers dare not touch and displays them with a clarity and presence few can match. Wharfedale's flawless combination of painstaking engineering and intense build quality has produced these extremely reasonably priced, reference-level loudspeakers. The Jade 7's feature two 200 mm, one 165 mm, one 75 mm drivers and one 25 mm tweeter. When using the Jade 7 in a home theatre setup, they can be matched with the Jade 1 or 3 bookshelf speakers or Jade SR, Jade C1 or C2 centre speakers for 5.1, 7.1 or 7.2 channels.
Cabinet Design and Construction
Jade's curved cabinet construction incorporates the innovative new Crystalam material. Formed from a series of critically specified natural wood elements and composites, this laminated material is formulated to reduce panel vibration and acoustic leakage. Each Crystalam layer is bonded to allow microscopic sliding of one layer upon another, producing a natural damping effect that effectively cuts off the usual panel resonance often found in speaker cabinets. The resonance is spread over a wide frequency band, thereby avoiding an acoustic "signature." The Crystalam layers also act as an acoustic barrier that stops sound from inside the cabinet walls.
Advanced Drive Unit Design
Wharfedale has engineered a new cone material called Acufiber, which marries the responsiveness of glass and carbon fibre with a self-damping woven matrix. This material acts as a neutral radiator which reduces colouration without dulling the musical quality of the sound it reproduces. Acufiber cones also feature a moulded pattern which automatically breaks up standing waves to further reduce colouration and distortion. The cone is coupled to one of the most linear drive motor systems yet devised for a loudspeaker. The voice coil is immersed in a magnetic field focused to produce balanced forces for push-pull linearity. Additionally, the coil features shorting rings to reduce the usual effects of inductance, resulting in cleaner and more extended midrange response.
Aperiodic Cabinet Loading
Aperiodic simply in speaker terms, "without resonance." Both reflex loading and closed box speakers are normally full of resonance. One problem associated with this resonance is that the system continues to produce sound after the music has stopped. At its worst, the bass takes on a boomy quality, but even when controlled, this resonance can still blur the clarity of the low end, making instruments sound unnatural and indistinct. Aperiodic loading overcomes this problem while still allowing for the port to extend the low end of the speaker. It replaces the resonance of the reflex-loaded cabinet with a much simpler solution where no resonance is encouraged and music is reproduced without unnatural ringing, "chuffing," or midrange leaks, resulting in accuracy and clarity that other cabinet designs just can't match.
