The DIAMOND 12i mid/bass drivers retain their proven design, featuring cones made from Klarity™—a proprietary blend of polypropylene and mica that delivers high rigidity with minimal distortion. This carefully engineered material creates a cone that is lightweight, well-controlled, and highly responsive, producing natural dynamics, expressive detail, and accurate transient performance. A low-damping surround improves efficiency and dynamic headroom, while the ribbed cone geometry and advanced profile modelling ensure a smooth, linear frequency response free from unwanted coloration.

Incremental Acoustic Enhancements

Under the direction of Wharfedale's Director of Acoustic Design, Peter Comeau, together with senior engineers Dan Bailey, Ornellas, and Oliver Davies, the bass system was meticulously reworked through months of development. This process combined extensive empirical testing and critical listening with advanced measurement techniques, including laser interferometry, comprehensive anechoic and in-room analysis, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to evaluate airflow behaviour and pressure within the port.

Low-Resonance Cabinet Design

Each cabinet uses an advanced multi-layer sandwich construction to minimise panel resonance and unwanted distortion. Even the bonding materials between layers are acoustically evaluated to ensure optimal damping performance. Internally, precisely placed, computer-designed bracing links opposing cabinet panels to suppress vibration without transferring it between surfaces.
